[Q&A SUNDAY] How to Increase Your Confidence As A Speaker

I’ve got a great question for you today: how do you increase your confidence as a speaker so you can go from speaking to a room of 5 to a room of 500?

Today’s question comes from a wonderful member of the DARETOGROW community who has been running smaller events in her front room. She’s about to run an event on stage with 100 people in the audience and has asked: how do you prepare for that?

It’s a great question because it’s an experience of us many will have; going from an informal gathering in our homes or local coffee shops to speaking on stage in front of a large audience. One of the biggest differences is that we probably know and can meet and greet everyone at a smaller event but we can’t do that with 100 or 500 people in the room.

So with this in mind, here are my top five tips for preparing to speak in front of a larger audience. These are things I’ve done to build my confidence as a speaker. I hope they help you too!

In today’s episode:

  • My top fives tips for speaking in front of much larger audiences
  • Is is acceptable to use cue cards or notes for larger audiences and events?
  • My favourite trick for helping me catch my breath as a speaker!
  • How I prepare in the days leading up to a big event.

MY STORY **

In 2015 my doctor diagnosed me with depression and said I might be bi-polar. He offered me medication but it wasn’t the right solution for me. Instead, I went running, I stopped watching the news, I got into nature, I set a bold new vision for my life, I followed my passions and I started to express my truth. Just over two years later and I no longer have depression. I now live in Tynemouth, I still go running (now it’s along that gorgeous beach) and I make a living doing what I love: teaching people how to change their lives.

Also obsessed with dogs and vegan baking. Of course.
