Making a vision board

Put your dreams first this bank holiday

When was the last time you made time for you – for your dreams? Last week? Last month? Last year? You can’t remember?

It happens. Life moves at such a pace that we rarely stop to ask:

  • What do I want to be celebrating 12 months from today?
  • What would a perfect day look like to me?
  • How do I want to feel?

We tend instead to ask:

  • What shall I make everyone for tea?
  • Will I have time to do the dark and light laundry today or just the darks?
  • When is that report due again?

So this Easter bank holiday I’m offering you a challenge. Carve out one, maybe two hours just for you over the next four days and ask yourself the questions above (the first set, not the second set haha!). Then, go to a magazine shop (WHSmiths is best for magazines, let’s be honest) and buy three, maybe even five magazines that sum up your answers. Make your favourite drink, clear a space, flick through each page and tear out all of the images that sum up who you want to be, the life you want to live and how you want to feel in 12 months. It could be longer if it’s a really big vision hehe.

This is an incredibly uplifting exercise. It takes you out of your head space, out of fear and out of the daily grind and into your heart, your imagination, your wishful, wistful self. When you’re in this space, you’ll feel far more inspired to make that move that could just change your life!

Just yesterday I felt a little flat so I treated myself to a home styling magazine and a travel magazine. Then last night I got into bed and sat and tore out all the pictures I loved.

Vision board - my kitchen

I looked at the pictures of ‘my new kitchen’ and imagined putting my freshly baked scones out for Alice and our friends to enjoy.

I imagined hearing the birds singing in the trees as we pottered around the villa. I could smell the fresh lemon I’d squeezed for the lemonade.

I started thinking about what I’d write at my new writing table…

…And how Alice would feel if I had all mis-matched chairs haha.

You see, when you put what you want in such sharp focus – when you step into it and really live it for the moment – the next obvious question becomes: what must I do today to make that possible tomorrow?
