Never too late to change your life

WOULD YOU QUIT YOUR 9-5 FOR THIS?

One of the most powerful questions I ever heard was: What would you do if you found out you only had three months left to live?

On hearing that question, I got an immediate mental download: I’d give up my bricks and mortar businesses (two six-figure companies I’d built from scratch), I’d move to Manchester, I’d tell Alice Rosemary Allum I was in love with her, I’d write a book and I’d launch my dream business: DARETOGROW.

As soon as the ‘download’ came to me, it was gone again. Swept away. I had dismissed it as being i m p o s s i b l e.

“That will never happen”, I told myself, “It’s a pipe dream”. “I’ve got too many responsibilities!”.

It was almost as if I thought my bed had been made. I had chosen this life; the life of being depressed, the life of being an MD, the life of suits and meetings with agendas.

But, as the faded memory of the download floated loosely in my mind, then came the killer blow.

The question that followed was: “So how do you know you don’t have three months left to live?”.

That thought hit me like a BRICK WALL. Here I am, aged 27 – depressed, overweight, unhappy and living a life of fear. I think it’s too late to change but it’s never too late. Anyone can change. In any moment.

We all have the right to be happy. We all have the right to make a living doing what we love. We all have the right to CHOOSE AGAIN.

In that moment, I made a decision: I decided to take a punt on myself and on my dreams. And I dared myself: No matter the outcome, I would at least try. I would dare to change. I would dare to build my dream life. I would DARE TO GROW.

That was three years ago, almost to the day and I am so so grateful to the woman I was then; the woman who took a punt on what she wanted and who she could be.

I’m grateful to the people I’ve met along the way. I’m grateful to the people who went before me and wrote books showing me how to do it too. I’m grateful for the online courses I was able to join to learn the skills I needed to make it happen. I’m grateful for the journey.

So fast forward to today, and somehow I find myself screaming into a waterfall with a flask of hot tea and vegan snacks (go Steve!), eating pizza in Wales with friends I met online and paddle boarding on a Monday morning.

@Claire Wilson, Steve Wilson, words cannot even describe how much this trip meant to me and Alice. I hope the scenes in the video come close to showing you how special this weekend has been.

Here’s to Wales. Here’s to the adventure. Here’s to daring to grow.

It’s never too late to change. You deserve happiness. Take a punt on yourself and take a punt on your dreams.

I dare you.

Lisa

P.s. Alice – I love you. Thank you.
